Professional Tree Removal in Marple & Stockport

When you’ve been working with trees as long as we have, you learn that taking a tree down isn’t just about revving a chainsaw. It’s about planning, precision, and respect for the property we are working on.
At North Cheshire Forestry, we have been serving Marple and the wider Greater Manchester area since 1976. That is nearly 50 years of climbing, cutting, and caring for local trees. You don’t stick around in this trade for half a century unless you are reliable, honest, and good at what you do.
We are based right here in Marple, but our teams cover a wide radius across Cheshire and Greater Manchester. Whether you are in Marple Bridge, Mellor, Romiley, High Lane, Disley, Stockport, Bramhall, Poynton, Hazel Grove, or Wilmslow, we are your local experts.
If you have a tree that has become a problem, a danger, or just needs to go to make way for a new project, we are the team to call.
Understanding Our Tree Removal Service
We know that deciding to remove a tree is often a difficult choice. Trees are a massive part of our landscape and our gardens. However, there are times when removal is the only sensible option.
Sometimes a tree is dead, dying, or diseased, posing a significant risk of falling and damaging your home (or your neighbour’s). Other times, a tree has simply outgrown its position. It might be blocking all the light into your conservatory, its roots might be interfering with foundations or driveways, or it might be standing in the way of a planned extension.
Our tree removal service covers everything from straightforward felling of small garden trees to the complex dismantling of large, dangerous hardwoods situated in confined spaces.
We don’t just “chop it down.” We assess the tree, the surroundings, and the access to determine the safest, most efficient way to get that timber on the ground without breaking a fence panel or flattening a flowerbed.
How We Tackle the Job: The Practical Side
A lot of our customers ask how we actually go about removing a large tree, especially when it is hanging over a greenhouse or squeezed between two houses. This is where our training and equipment come into play.
We generally use one of two methods, depending on the space available:
1. Directional Felling
If there is ample space, like a large lawn or a paddock, we can fell the tree from the base. We cut a precise “gob” (a directional notch) into the trunk and use felling cuts to drop the tree exactly where we want it. It’s fast and efficient, but in residential Marple, we don’t often get the luxury of that much space.
2. Sectional Dismantling
This is the bread and butter of a professional tree surgeon. When space is tight, we climb the tree and take it apart piece by piece, starting from the top and working our way down.
- The Climb: Our climbers are NPTC trained and use modern harness systems to ascend the tree safely.
- The Rigging: We don’t just drop branches and hope for the best. We use lowering ropes, pulleys, and friction devices. We attach a rope to a branch, cut it, and the ground crew lowers it gently to the floor under complete control. This ensures no damage to the ground underneath.
- The Stem: Once the canopy is removed, we bring the main trunk down in manageable logs (chogs), again lowering them carefully if necessary.
Once the tree is down, the job isn’t over. Our ground team works in tandem with the climber to process the waste immediately. We put the brash (branches) through our woodchipper and stack the timber. We pride ourselves on leaving your garden tidier than we found it.
Why Standards Matter (BS3998 and NPTC)
Anyone can buy a chainsaw from a hardware store, but that doesn’t make them a tree surgeon. Tree work is dangerous. It involves heavy timber, working at height, and powerful machinery.
At North Cheshire Forestry, we do things by the book.
NPTC Trained Staff
All our staff hold the relevant NPTC (National Proficiency Tests Council) qualifications. This proves we are competent in chainsaw use, climbing, aerial rescue, and felling. We don’t take risks with our safety or your property.
BS3998 Standards
We work to British Standard 3998:2010 Recommendations for Tree Work. This is the gold standard in our industry. It dictates how cuts should be made to ensure safety and biological practice. Even when removing a tree, following these standards is vital for safety and managing the site correctly.
Fully Insured
We carry full Public Liability Insurance. While we have an excellent safety record, tree work has inherent risks. You need the peace of mind that comes with knowing that in the unlikely event something goes wrong, you are fully covered. We are happy to show proof of insurance before we start any work.
Trustmark and Trade Bodies
We are proud to hold Trustmark status. Trustmark is the only Government-endorsed quality scheme for work carried out in and around the home. It tells you that we have been vetted and meet required standards of trading. We are also members of the FCA and other relevant trade bodies, keeping us up to date with the latest industry regulations.
Our Environmental Promise: Nothing Goes to Waste
We love trees and nature. That’s why we got into this business in 1976. Even when we have to remove a tree, we ensure the resource is used responsibly. We have a strict environmental policy to recycle 100% of the material we remove from your property.
Recycling Timber and Chips
We don’t send tree waste to landfill.
- Woodchips: The branches we chip are transported to local allotments, garden centres, and farms. They are used for mulch, suppressing weeds, and improving soil quality for local growers.
- Logs: The larger timber is processed into logs. These are seasoned and used as firewood to heat local homes.
Protecting Local Wildlife
We take our responsibility to nature seriously. Before we start any work, we check for nesting birds. Under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, it is an offence to disturb a nesting bird.
If we find an active nest in a tree you want removed, we will simply wait. We will reschedule the work for after the fledglings have flown the nest. We won’t bend the rules on this—we respect our local wildlife too much.

We know there are other tree surgeons out there, but we believe our history speaks for itself. We are a practical, no-nonsense team. We turn up when we say we will, we give you a clear price, and we do the job properly.
